4 Ways That Black Cumin Seed Oil Can Help You Live Long & Age Gracefully
Nigella sativa has been used medicinally by many cultures for thousands of years. And now, scientific studies are finding what these cultures have already known for ages: the oil of this seed has positive effects on the way humans age.
In the plethora of studies over the last century, black seed oil has been shown to discourage an array of ailments, like certain cellular problems, diabetes symptoms, and respiratory disorders. It has also been shown to have an anti-aging effect, giving users a more vibrant look, all while helping them avoid illness and improving their immune system.
But, just how does it do this? Here are four ways that black cumin oil helps people live longer and age more gracefully:
1. Black Cumin Supports Cellular Health
“Anti-aging” seems like a strange term because we will all age. The difference, however, can be how you age. As you get older, your cells may degenerate or display dysfunctional behavior. So, preventing this is key. And black cumin oil helps with just that.
In a study involving mice, scientists found that black cumin oil contributed to anti-aging effects. Specifically, the oil reduced lipid peroxidation. This is the process of oxidation degradation in certain cells and it leads to cell damage. The same study also noticed faster cell recovery in the subjects.
In another animal study, experimenters found black cumin oil to show significant tissue repair in the pancreas of rats with type-1 diabetes.
And, following a review of the literature, researchers concluded that Nigella sativa helps wounds close and heal faster.
Clearly, black cumin oil plays a role in the upkeep and preservation of cells, which is crucial to good health. Knowing its function on the micro-scale explains its impact on the macro level and its contribution to thick hair and smooth skin:
2. Black Cumin Supports Hair Growth
To date, the USFDA has not approved any hair growth agent. However, the research has continually proven black cumin oil to be a suitable contender.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, and randomized study, 10 patients with hair loss disorders were treated with oil containing Nigella sativa daily for 3 months. 10 other patients were given a placebo. A significant improvement of hair growth and hair thickness was observed in 70 percent of the group that had been applying the black cumin oil.
Another clinical study which included 90 participants being treated with black cumin oil found that hair falls reduced to 76 percent, 72 percent, 67 percent, 59 percent, 32 percent, then finally 0 percent on 15 days, 30 days, 45 days, 60 days, 75 days, and 90 days, respectively.
Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) accounts for over 95 percent of hair loss in men. By the age of 32, two-thirds of American men experience some degree of noticeable hair loss, and by the age of 50, roughly 85 percent of men have significantly thinning hair. This discernable sign of aging can potentially be avoided with a simple oil that is natural and clinically proven to promote hair growth.

3. Black Cumin Supports Skin Health
Black cumin oil has shown capable results in clinical studies pertaining to skincare. Its use has been attributed to the prevention or treatment of certain skin diseases, such as acne, and vitiligo.
Due to its anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitic properties, Nigella sativa is able to inhibit the onset of many infections that can affect the skin. This allows the skin to be healthy and clean, sustaining a youthful look.
Experts have praised the oil as a natural cosmetic with the ability to keep the skin in a prosperous state. One study even found that those taking Nigella sativa had improved skin hydration and epidermal barrier function compared to those taking a placebo.
4. Black Cumin Contains Antioxidant Properties
Black cumin oil has displayed antioxidant activity. You may have heard the word antioxidant bouncing around, but aren’t fully sure what it means. You may also be wondering how it could be related to anti-aging.
Antioxidants are molecules that help fight free radical cells in the body. These cells – though beneficial in small amounts – are linked to many illnesses, diabetes, and heart disease.
Along with that, when the number of free radicals in the body outweighs the number of antioxidants, it can lead to what’s called oxidative stress. This can damage important molecules in the body, including your DNA, potentially resulting in cell death.
Because of this, it is best to ensure that you have adequate amounts of antioxidants in your body to keep a healthy balance and prevent cell and DNA damage.
